My book review of 'No Fixed Address' by Susin Nielsen

Felix lives with his mum and pet gerbil Horatio in a van.
His mum, Astrid is determined to find a job which would enable them to find some more acceptable accommodation, but she struggles to fit in and any employment is short-lived.
Astrid tells Felix to keep their van life a secret. But it's hard to do when you don't have enough to eat, you can only shower once a week at the community centre and most of your clothes are in storage. Nevertheless Felix makes friends at school boosted by his ability to remember facts and trivia.
There's a tv show that Felix particularly enjoys. It's a quiz which feeds his love of general knowledge. And when he learns of a special competition for young people, with a significant cash prize, he thinks this could be his way of helping his mum get them a new home.
This is a great book. It's fun and fast-paced while still having some very serious themes about family, parenting, homelessness and mental health. Felix is a great character and this is an upbeat and uplifting read while also challenging preconceptions and assumptions we all might make. It's aimed at readers aged 9-12 years.
