My book review of 'Time Anxiety' by Chris Guillebeau

Time Anxiety
by Chris Guillebeau

There never seems to be enough time in the day to get everything done. Whether it's work, household chores, or other everyday commitments, time seems to rush by with little sense of accomplishment or conclusion.

Being freelance I've felt this very keenly lately so I was interested to see this book had been published and gave it a go!

I'm a devoted compiler of 'to do' lists. But they've got a bit out of hand in recent times. They're certainly unrealistic in all that I expect to achieve in a day and, as a result, when tasks are moved on to the next day, and the day after, there's a sense of disappointment and disenchantment in not getting them done.

In this book, Chris Guillebeau explains that I am not alone. In fact most of us feel the pressure of a society 'that prizes being busy over being present'.

He shares research on time perception and our responses to jobs and expectations. He gives advice and delivers personal anecdotes and reflections to encourage the reader 'to break free from the cycle of time-related stress' and redefine our relationship with the clock.

Writing from the perspective of having faced these challenges himself, and being a 'work in progress', this is a very readable and engaging guide with lots of encouraging words and practical suggestions for living in the moment.
