My book review of 'The Translator' by Harriet Crawley

This book was recommended to me recently, and I don't know how I didn't discover it for myself. It was listed in 'The Sunday Times' Best Thriller Books of 2023, 'The Times' Thriller Book of the Month and the 'Financial Times' Best Summer Thrillers of 2023.
As soon as I learnt the title, I was eager to dive in!
Clive Franklin is a Russian language expert in the Foreign Office and is summoned unexpectedly to Moscow to act as translator for the British Prime Minister. Once there he discovers that his former lover, Marina Volina, is the interpreter to the Russian President.
The Russians are working to sabotage the undersea communication cables linking the US to the UK. Together Clive and Marina will try to stop the attack that could paralyse communications and collapse the Western economy. And how will their relationship be affected?
This is a great read which combines thriller with love story beautifully. And there's some fascinating insight into work as a translator, too!
