It's aimed at children aged 9-12 but with a reading age of eight years.
Hayley makes fun of the old lady who lives across the street. She nicknames her Boo and thinks her strange and grumpy. So Hayley is annoyed when her pet cat, Judy Garland, seems to take a fancy to the old lady and keeps going into her garden.
In climbing the apple tree, to retrieve her cat one day, Hayley falls and the old lady, whose real name is Lilian, comes to her rescue. They chat and discover a mutual love of the theatre and appreciation of Jo in 'Little Women'.
Later when Lilian is ill, Hayley learns that people are trying to use this opportunity to make the old lady move away. But Lilian cannot leave the house because of the apple tree, until Hayley comes up with a solution.
This is a lovely story about friendship, and not judging by appearances!
