My review:

Cassie works at a gym as a personal trainer. She's doing well and feels she's got herself back on track after leaving a difficult relationship two years earlier.

Her gym is a little different in that it's trying to be inclusive so welcomes people with disabilities and one day a new client comes along, assigned to Cassie.

It's her ex-boyfriend Liam, only now he's blind.

Should she take him on as a client? They have a history, and it's more than a failed romance.

Liam was obsessed with achieving physical perfection and he sought to control every aspect of Cassie’s life. Ultimately she left him. Why has he chosen this gym? What does he expect from Cassie now? What should she do? She doesn't want to get involved again, but could this be an opportunity for her to settle the score?

It's an intriguing story which explores a number of interesting themes though fundamentally it's about coercive control, a toxic relationship.

But I used to work in the fitness industry and the gym setting and exercise obsession I've always thought makes a great backdrop for a novel. And Emma Healey works as a volunteer with visually impaired people so I'm fascinated by her experience there and how it has informed her writing.

This was a gripping read which I was unable to put down, and I look forward to seeing what she writes next!
